The Story Behind Diamond Dogs

By: Captain Al Silebi

I've been a life-long fisherman. I took interest in the ocean and fish at a very young age and loved to snorkel. Eventually bugging my parents enough that they bought my first fishing outfit, the venerable Zebco spin cast outfit. It was $3.99 push-button glory! We sat by the river bank for hours and eventually caught our very first fish, a Sunfish. So really my fishing beginnings were very similar to most kids. But after that, I truly obsessed! I went on a fishing bender for the rest of my life! I particularly loved saltwater fishing because the fish fought a lot more.

Eventually to stay close to saltwater, I joined the U.S. Navy and was afforded the opportunity to serve and fish all around the world! The coolest thing about this was that I learned varied techniques that I could apply locally. I fished every chance I could get. Eventually I separated from the Navy and sought a career in civilian life. I attended San Diego State University and obtained a degree in Computer Science and went to work as a Software Engineer. Still obsessed with fishing, I fished every weekend, every vacation and every "sick day".

As life progressed, I became a father to my amazing daughter Izabella. When she's not at school in Spokane, WA attending Gonzaga University, she's my deckhand and marketing specialist. This is a family-centered business run by a family. She of course wasn't sheltered from this fishing obsession and pretty much the only way I could get out to fish was to take her. So she learned and has spent a lot of days on the water. She even has her own collection of pink jigs (our secret weapon)! Most notably she's actually the one that came up with our name "Diamond Dogs", she referred to us as team "Diamond Dogs". So I kept it, it's our bond. She's also the one that picked our boat dog Jax! We're not really sure how it happened, but he's the perfect boat dog!

Eventually it was time to move on from my engineering career and in 2022, I decided it was time to just do what I always loved to do. Do what you love and never work a day in your life. So I decided to put my 36 years of local fishing experience and 50 years of worldwide fishing knowledge to better use and share that love and passion with everyone and established "Diamond Dogs Sportfishing". It's been a journey to get here and I'd love to share that journey with you. We'll see you onboard for some fish catching and memories!
