Gear We Use at Diamond Dogs Sportfishing
We always supply fishing gear for all of our trips and it's always top shelf equipment, because we don't believe in putting stuff in your hands that we wouldn't personally use. You are always welcome to bring your own equipment, but here is what we utilize:
Kids Rods
We pride ourselves and are honored when someone brings their child out to catch their first fish ever. We've done this enough times, that we've synthesized our own outfits for this task. It's designed to be easy to use and allow your child to catch multiple fish before they get tired. They may seem like little outfits, but they are mighty and have landed big halibut, bass and sharks. They are capable and meet our quality standards. We utilize Varmac short glass spinning rods paired with Daiwa BG 4000 series reels (they are a little bigger but easier to work with kinda like crayons). From there they run the same fishing line and jigs are our bigger "adult" outfits. 20-30# Power Pro braid, 12# Seaguar flourocarbon leader and jigs adequate to the situation. The magic of these is that kids can fish and fight right from the rail if they want. This is invaluable as you'll see!

Bay Rods
Hands down our favorite is a spinning or baitcast with an 8-17# and 1/4-3/4oz rating we pair these with Daiwa BG 3000 series on our spinning setups that we issue. These are loaded with 20-30# braid and 12# flouro leader. In the upper bay we occasionally move up to 4000-5000 series reels and heavier rods, but find that most of the time, these suit our needs.
All Purpose Bait Cast
We utilize these on everything from Yellowtail, Tuna, Rockfish, Lingcod and Bouncing a bait for Halibut. These are 20-50# Phenix bait cast rods and 4000 size bait cast reels, typically Tranx or Lexa. These are loaded with 50# braid and varying leaders from 20-50# depending on what we're doing.

Trolling / Kite
Sometimes the fish are spread out and the best way to locate is to troll while we look for signs of feeding fish. Other times, a flying fish under a kite or a trolled spreader bar is the ticket! These situations call for heavier gear and we deploy Penn International reels on Seeker rods for this task. Generally we like 30W and 50 reels and 40-100 or 50-130 Seeker rods. Depending on the situation, we love our Tallica 25 reels also! It just depends on what we are seeing and every day is different!
Deep Dropping
Let's break this down into two categories. Rockfish deep drops and Swordfish deep drops. For rockfish we like a Tanacom 750 with 30# braid and a 30-80 rod, it's just easier and it gets the job done! We can target Reds, Blackgill and even Black Cod with this setup. Swordfishing is a much different undertaking! We utilizse Daiwa Seaborg 1200MJ reels on 40-100 or 50-130 rods with Winthrop butts and rollers. These are spooled with 80# Power Pro. We also use buoys with these, typically deploying two outfits.

We use the best gear available for the situation!
